Ray is a Kickstarter project for subtitles in any language: found online, generated with AI when none exist, and translated. It plans its own apps and a TV called Ray One. StreamBridge has done automatic subtitles since 2.4, inside Plex, on the devices you already own.
What Ray is building
Ray's software finds subtitles for any video, generates them with AI when none exist, syncs them and translates them into over 200 languages. TechSpecs, the company behind it, plans apps for every platform and is crowdfunding a television built around it.
Where the subtitles play
A subtitle app can only add subtitles to video that plays inside it. That's why Ray needs its own apps and its own TV. StreamBridge saves subtitles next to the movie in your Plex library, so every Plex app shows them: TVs, streaming boxes, phones, tablets and browsers. There's nothing new to install.
StreamBridge also brings the movies
Ray subtitles media you already have. StreamBridge also puts the movies and TV series into Plex: you browse Stremio catalogs on your Mac and watch in Plex, with nothing filling your drive.
So, which one
If you want an AI television or a standalone subtitle player, back Ray. If you have a Mac and a Plex server, StreamBridge does subtitles in Plex today. It's free to use, and Pro, which includes subtitles, is a one-time purchase.
